‘sup everyone, Leer here. We finally got my favorite game mode back – Eternal! We got a gazillion card changes with the latest patch that shook up the Eternal meta considerably and assures a new and fresh environment to enjoy.
Legends of Runeterra Eternal Decks
Sorting MaRu’s LoR Eternal Meta Tier List and meta stats by playrate (PR), we see the following:
Akshan Lee Sin has made a great return after the reverts to both champions of the archetype.
Braum Vladimir (Scargrounds) was known as a meme-tier deck in Eternal. With the introduction of Crimson Banquet Hall, the brew passed the line for many players to try it out with mediocre success.
Samira Zoe is an Invoke Allegiance deck that also runs Samira, trying to make the most of Cosmic Call and the Mountain Scryer and The Fangs buffs. There’s also a second version of the archetype, cutting Mountain Scryer for more Noxus cards like Ravenous Flock and Arachnoid Sentry.
Jax Vi Timelines is a burn brew in disguise that overcame the Concurrent Timelines nerfs.
Aphelios Zoe Shadow Isles is another shade of Allegiance Invoke, with the upside of Atrocity (and sometimes Vile Feast and Vengeance).
Udyr Galio is somehow a thing, despite both champions being dead for most of their existence. The brew includes the new card Balen the Benevolent and made some waves in the Standard meta, more on that tomorrow!
Ryze Ionia was a long-awaited deck to return to for many players for when the Eternal format returned. Despite its shacky past, Ryze Ionia is performing quite well with a 53% winrate!
Zoe Diana Shadow Isles is yet another color of Allegiance Invoke, so you get to pick your favorite region and champ to pair Cosmic Call with!
Annie Jhin (Jhinnie) is the Aggro goat, the cockroach that will apparently never die, no matter how many metas and expansion you throw on top of it.
Shyvana Aurelion Sol (Dragons) is on trial once again, with grim-looking odds of getting a favorable Judgment.
Turning to winrates (WR), we get this result:
Jax Vi is stomping ladder, smashing everything and everyone in their way. With a 62% winrate, this archetype is truly terrifying.
Miss Fortune Twisted Fate (Pirates) should come as no surprise. Like many Aggro blends, Pirates always rises in the first week of a new Eternal meta and farm experimental decks like Dragons.
Diana appears to be the best pairing with Zoe for Invoke Allegiance. That being said, all types of Cosmic Call decks can be found in the top ten best Legends of Runeterra Eternal meta decks, like Samira Zoe, Aphelios Zoe, and even Viktor Zoe.
As with Pirates, the cockroach king Jhinnie is punishing experimental meta decks and homebrews in this chaotic first week of Eternal.
On that note, Draven Jinx (Discard Aggro) is doing the exact same!
On the opposite side of the spectrum, Ryze Ionia is also doing quite well, highlighting how diverse this encroaching Eternal meta will be.
Finally, Azir Irelia is performing at a solid level, despite getting absolutely no buffs or new toys to play with.
Factors Shaping the LoR Eternal Meta
Jax Vi is a ladder menace with an unheard-of winrate. It’s also quite the popular brew, indicating that it is difficult to target.
The combination of Concurrent Timelines + Weaponmasters has always been busted and started with Combat Cook in Trundle Timelines.
Now that Blowback is in the game and Get Excited! available in Eternal, Jax Vi has an insane amount of burn to follow up their early tempo plays with.
When it comes to matchups, Jax Vi doesn’t have a lot of bad ones.
It’s mostly Noxus Aggro brews and Akshan Samira, which (except Pirates) are all in a manageable range of a 45% winrate.
Only Pirates is truly troublesome for the Timelines deck, as this brew is especially good at going six wide by round four, whereas Jax Vi only wants to play one valuable unit each round.
For the positive matchups, Jax Vi steamrolls Scargrounds, a deck that has been struggling to keep up the longer the season goes.
And despite Akshan Lee’s Eye of the Dragon, Jax Vi is able to eventually overrun its foe with chunky units. Especially Vi is a great tool for removing Eye of the Dragon, and Jax (level 2) can push damage through Dragonling.
Honorable Mentions
Akshan Fizz
19 cards
21 cards
Akshan Fizz is a combo deck akin to Akshan Lee that has been seen in past metas. Before, it often played Gnar or Renekton for an Overwhelm body, but Akshan gives us the consistency to Predict Draw our combo pieces, and Fizz gives us a vessel that’s immune to almost any removal.
Our combo is Papercraft Dragon (which used to be five mana and had to be nerfed) on Ruin Runner or Fizz. Since Ruin Runner has Spellshield she is quite the self-sufficient mount, and Fizz is Fizz.
If you should miss out on those Papercraft Dragon targets, fret not! The Absolver is back in Eternal and can make any target a threat, although without a Spellshield.
On ladder, Fizz Akshan achieves a 60% winrate over 2k games in the past three days. If you like Fizz but are tired of Samira, or Akshan Lee but are tired of losing, Fizz Akshan is the perfect alternative that rewards you for planning ahead!
Fiora Galio
6 cards
34 cards
Udyr Galio has found mediocre results as an Eternal LoR meta deck, but Fiora seems to fix its problems. Turns out that Udyr is a lackluster champion after all and Demacia supremacy is the way to go.
Fiora is especially great at farming champions like Samira and Akshan, and the small units of Invoke Allegiance blends.
What surprises me the most is that this deck relies on Champions' Strength to close out games. I thought the card would be dead after the nerf but Galio (level 2) gives us a potential second Rally while our units are still buffed.
On ladder, Fiora Galio sports a 62.5% winrate over 1k games in the past three days. If you missed Fiora and don’t want Champions' Strength to vanish from your heart, try out this deck!
Diana Nocturne aka Nightfall
23 cards
17 cards
Also a Targon Shadow Isles brew, Diana Nocturne takes a different spin on these regions than the Cosmic Call variants.
Diana Nocturne, also called Nightfall, is a unique Aggro burn deck that utilizes Nightfall units to push damage early and level Nocturne for a massive Fearsome swing.
If this gameplan doesn’t close out the game, Doombeast + Unto Dusk threatens considerable burn damage. As this is a Drain effect, Nightfall plays as an exceptional Aggro counter.
On ladder, Nightfall holds a 59% winrate over a meager 250 games in the past three days. Not the highest sample size, but a promising winrate nonetheless. If you want to get a head start on the deck, check out our free Nightfall deck guide by Monte!
